My main computer was having a very annoying problem that prevented me from connecting any USB devices to it. It always prompted a message saying the USB driver cannot be installed. And when I went to the Device Manager, I saw the USB 2.0 Hub driver showing as an unknown device under Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark on it.
Looks like a new driver was needed. But since USB 2.0 is a generic system driver that doesn’t require any special drivers from 3rd party vendors since XP, where should I go to find and replace the corrupted driver? I’d been scratching my head and was at the edge of going the process of reinstalling everything when I finally found the easy fix. Thanks to Sarkie’s Site.
Here is how:
1. Locate the latest original USB 2.0 driver from the following folder.
3. Once done, go back to Device Manager, uninstall USB 2.0 Hub from the list and re-scan for new hardware. The USB 2.0 driver will be installed successfully using the driver we just copied.
It worked like a charm on my computer.

Hello everyone! So i finally started to install my Maximus V Formula motherboard drivers last night from Asus's website, but I think I ran into a problem with the USB drivers. Off the website there are 3 drivers listed, which are: 1. Intel USB 3.0 Driver V 1.0.5.235, 2. the Intel(R) USB 3.0 Controller Driver V1.0.4.225 and 3.the Asmedia USB 3.0 Driver V1.14.3.0. I could only install the Intel USB 3.0 Driver V 1.0.5.235 and the Asmedia USB 3.0 Driver V1.14.3.0. I could not install the Intel(R) USB 3.0 Controller Driver V1.0.4.225. When I attempted to install the Intel(R) USB 3.0 Controller Driver V1.0.4.225 I got a message asking me if I really wanted to install an older version the USB driver, so I decided not to do it. I have a 3 question that only you brothers (ROG) can help me with: Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers I see two Generic USB Hub’s, but I do also see the Intel USB 3.0 Extension Host Controller & he Intel USB 3.0 Host Controller, I also see the Asmedia XHCI Controller. But should I see two Generic USB Hub’s listed? 15203 Second question, does anyone remember if after installing the USB driver you got a little dialog box that would appear evertime at startup, it had something to do with the USB driver wanting to run, but once I clicked Don’t ask again or automtically run (don’t remember exactly) it no longer prompts me at startup… Just didn’t feel right to me… So did anyone run into this before or did I run into a problem installing the USB drivers and should try again?? In startup (MSCONFIG) I have listed the Intel USB 3.0 Monitor listed, should this be loading at startup? Is it totally necessary or can I remove it from startup? All help much appreciated!
